If you live regionally in NSW, he doesn't mind a long drive or a short flight to get to you.

  • What experience and credentials does Alex have?

Alex is one of Australia's most experienced magicians.

He started at the age of 7, with his first ever paid roving magic gig aged 14, his first ever stage show to 300 people at the Grand Theatre in Leicester, UK, aged just 16.

At the time, he was the youngest member of the Leicester Magic Circle, too, and performed weekly stage shows for them alongside his much older peers.

As an adult, Alex went on to win the LMCs Close-Up competition 2 years in a row in 2007 & 8, beating a few experienced full-time professional magicians.

From this, Alex was entered into the Northern Magic Circle's Close-Up Magic Competition to compete against many other regional magic club competition winners. The "best of the best", with previous winners of this competition, including the great Dynamo, Alex, went on to win this also.

This took Alex to a more National challenge, the IBM British Close-Up Magic Championships. Alex was up against some very good full-time professionals and an audience including some of the world's greatest magicians. He was awarded 2nd place, which was a great achievement considering it was still, at this point, a side gig.

Alex has since performed at hundreds of events.

Alex is also a creator of magic for other magicians, having released a few products to the market, some of which have been featured in the World Championships of Magic (FISM), Penn & Teller Fool Us, America's Got Talent, and seen by millions across Asia in Asia's Got Talent.

  • What is Alex like as a person when performing?

Alex has that English gentleman style, a polite, non-combative, humorous personality, that disarms people. He then lets his sleight-of-hand work its miracles as people relax in Alex's company.

Alex will never embarrass an audience member or volunteer; he doesn't rely on getting laughs at someone else's expense.

He wants everyone to enjoy his performances.

  • How much does a Magician cost to hire in Australia?

    It depends!

On many factors such as duration of performance, which day of the week, time of event, (weekends and evenings are higher demand), location, plus quality, experience and credentials of the magician.

Sydney prices are, like most things, slightly higher than the rest of the country.

If you want a very good professional magician, who is also polite, reliable, courteous and punctual, then you pay for that experience and overall professionalism.

  • Can I book Alex to come to my house to perform?

Alex performs wherever there's an audience.

Alex has performed in large harbourside ballrooms, resort hotels, cocktail lounges, restaurants, boardrooms, company premises, on the street busking many years ago, and of course...in people's homes.

  • What is sleight of hand magic?

Sleight of hand refers to the skilful and invisible manipulation of objects - most often cards, coins, or everyday items - to create the illusion of impossibility.

It relies on years of practice, timing, and natural movement rather than mechanical tricks or camera effects.

Professional magicians use sleight of hand to control attention and perception, guiding the audience's focus so the "impossible" happens right in front of them. It's often described as the intersection of art, psychology, and dexterity - the ability to make the ordinary extraordinary through pure skill.

Alex is a very experienced sleight-of-hand magician. He doesn't rely solely on purchased props from a magic shop to make the magic happen. He is proud of the 1000s of hours spent reading and learning sleight-of-hand, as well as learning from great magicians of the past.

  • What makes Alex different from other magicians?

With over 30 years of experience as a professional magician and a long leadership career in various Fortune 500 companies, Alex is your best pick for a Sydney corporate magician.

He knows what you want, what you need and what you like.

When you book Alex, you're not just getting a performer. You're getting a partner in your event's success.

  • How interactive are Alex's shows?

Very! Alex's performances are built around audience participation - not as "volunteers," but as genuine contributors to the magic.

Whether it's a close-up roving performance where miracles happen in your guests' hands, or a stage show where the entire audience shapes the outcome, every routine is designed to be inclusive, intelligent, and engaging.

Participation is always handled with warmth and humour - never embarrassment.

Guests feel part of something extraordinary, not singled out.

In corporate settings, this interactivity is often what makes the event memorable. People don't just watch magic happen - they experience it firsthand, together.

Alex interchanges this interaction with other strong visual pieces, so there is a good balance of involvement and sitting back and watching something amazing happen.

  • Can Alex include our Company messaging?

Absolutely. Alex can tailor his performances for corporate clients - weaving in brand values, themes, or key messages in subtle and memorable ways.

Alex once closed the CEO of ANZ Bank's Global Leadership Conference, on BOTH days, with a 5-minute bespoke routine which communicated the Purpose & Strategy of the Bank.

Often occurring at a Trade Show, Exhibition, Client Networking Event or in-house Organisation-wide Showcase.

Rather than just using a logo or slogan in the magic, he uses story, timing, and reveal moments to connect your message to the emotion of surprise and discovery.

This makes the idea stick long after the performance ends.

For product launches, conferences, and awards nights, Alex can also design custom effects that align with your event theme or company narrative, ensuring the entertainment reinforces the message, not distracts from it.

Every collaboration begins with a short creative briefing so the magic feels naturally on-brand, not scripted or corporate.

  • Do magicians all perform the same tricks?

Many magicians learn from the same core principles and classic routines that have been part of magic for generations.

Think of them like "musical standards"  - the notes might be similar, but the performance, timing, and presentation make it unique.

What separates one magician from another is style, structure, skill and personality.

Two performers might start from the same concept, yet deliver completely different experiences.

A lot of magicians perform the same tricks, usually purchased from magic shops, because they're easy to do and create great reactions.

Alex's material is a blend of entirely original, personally re-engineered or refined, along with some classics, honed over decades of live performance. His shows blend classic sleight of hand with psychology, and modern presentation - ensuring every performance feels fresh, intelligent, and built around the audience in front of him.

  • How does mentalism differ from magic?

Magic and mentalism share common roots - both rely on misdirection, psychology, and finely crafted technique - but they create very different experiences.

Magic often focuses on the visual: objects appear, vanish, levitate, transpose, or transform in impossible ways.

Mentalism focuses on the psychological: thoughts are revealed, choices predicted, or decisions influenced.

While magicians often use props or sleight of hand, mentalists rely more on language, timing, and perception to make it seem as though they can access someone's mind.

In truth, mentalists use a mix of methods, from magic principles to psychological cues, to construct the illusion of mind-reading.

Alex blends both disciplines to create the most powerful effects.

His performances use the techniques of magic and the insight of mentalism to create unforgettable moments where audiences experience just how playfully the mind can be deceived.

  • Can a mentalist really read minds?

Mentalism is a performance art that creates the illusion of mind-reading, influence, and prediction by apparently using psychology, suggestion, and observation.

In most cases, mentalists are also magicians who use traditional magic techniques, psychological subtleties, and stagecraft to make it look like they can read minds.

While it feels real, it's achieved through skill and devious methods, not psychic power. Only one performer, Uri Geller, has publicly maintained that his abilities are genuine, and he still does today.

Other performers, such as Derren Brown, often acknowledge that what they're doing isn't real, although, despite that, performers of Derren's calibre still cause people to believe that it is.

  • What is 'Prop' magic?

Some magicians rely mainly on self-working tricks - routines that depend on hidden mechanics or mathematical principles rather than technique. While these effects can be impressive, Alex's performances are rooted in true sleight of hand and psychological mastery, developed over three decades of professional experience.

Every illusion Alex performs, whether close-up or on stage, is designed to engage the audience's mind, not just their eyes.

His work blends psychology, perception, and finely honed skill to create moments that feel genuinely impossible, even to those familiar with magic.

Self-working magic can entertain, but Alex's approach goes further - when he combines his world-class sleight of hand ability with some subtle psychological principles, or hidden methods, the outcomes are truly astonishing.
