Many professional magicians avoid publishing fixed rates on their websites because every event is different, preferring to discuss the details and then give a clear, transparent quote with no hidden extras.
There are entertainment comparison sites such as Bark, Crowd Pleaser and others, where you can find a cheaper magician.
So it boils down to what you want from your magician.
Fees generally range from $3,000 to $5,000, depending on the scale of the event and the profile of the performer. A higher profile TV Magician, or Grand Illusionist, will command higher fees than this; however, there are only a handful of those in Australia. Stage magic requires more preparation, equipment, and rehearsal than close-up work, which is why rates are higher. The performance can also be designed to reinforce your brand message, engage audiences of hundreds, and leave a lasting impression that ties seamlessly into your event’s theme.
A Professional Close-Up Magician in Sydney will tend to charge between $1,000 - $3,000 for a Roving Magic gig.
However, this depends on many factors such as duration of performance, which day of the week, time of event, (weekends and evenings are higher demand), location, plus quality, experience and credentials of the magician.
Sydney prices are, like most things, slightly higher than the rest of the country.
If you want a very good professional magician, who is also polite, reliable, courteous and punctual, then you pay for that experience and overall professionalism.
The best magicians are in the $1,500-$3,000 range.
It’s usually better to book a seasoned performer for a shorter period who delivers unforgettable reactions than someone cheaper who simply fills more time.
As is often the answer - it depends!
Corporate stage magic is a more specialised craft that combines entertainment and showmanship. Fewer magicians have the skills to perform this type of magic than with close-up magic, increasing demand.
Hiring a corporate stage magician isn’t about finding the cheapest option; it’s about ensuring professionalism, reliability, and the skill to command a room full of executives, clients, and employees with finesse. Yes, you will be able to find a magician who does a short stage show for less than $3,000; however, you're likely to find a lack of experience to perform at the required standard for such events. The last thing you want is to be embarrassed in front of your guests.
In Sydney, all magicians charge varying prices depending on factors such as experience, TV appearances, date, time, location, type of performance and the number of guests.
For close-up magic, the average range is $1,000-$2,000.
For stage/cabaret type performances, the range is $3,000-$5,000.
Some magicians like to create tiers such as beginner, intermediate, top level pro, and anchor themselves in one of them (usually the higher end) to set expectations.
However, I prefer to give the range, as all events are different.
For example:
- I was hired by one of the big four banks for just 10 minutes to perform close-up magic to 10 people at a round dinner table, early in the evening on a weeknight. I wasn't going to charge $2,000.
- I was hired to perform for a 10-year-old's birthday dinner; however, they didn't want 'kids magic', and I don't perform 'kids magic'. They wanted my usual 30-minute stand-up show. I wasn't going to charge the mum anywhere near $2,000, on a mid-week early evening.
So, given the nuances of client needs, I trust you will enjoy that you can pick up the phone or contact me via my website, and we can talk through your needs.
So as I said, it depends!
